Shepard Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service.  Johnson’s service includes 2,800 hours of pro bono services donated over a six-year period. His legal services included wills and powers of attorney for people at the end of their lives as well as debt settlement litigation and landlord-tenant representation. He was described as not only compassionate but patient when serving low income clients of the clinic.

David Capp, Hammond, is one of nine attorneys and judges to be inducted into the Fellows of the Foundation. Capp was a United States Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana for seven years until March 2017. Capp prosecuted public corruption offenses and violent crime and served as the office’s terrorism coordinator after 9/11.

The Honorable Larry J. McKinney, Indianapolis, will be honored posthumously for his volunteer efforts for civic education. McKinney was a native of South Bend, Indiana.

These are just a few examples of the stories behind the nominations. Read more about the honorees here.

“Every year the Foundation honors dedicated public servants and leading lawyers from across the state who have demonstrated a solid commitment to improving our communities and solving the most complex problems we face,” said Kenneth J. Allen, the Foundation’s president. “I’ve never seen a more impressive and deserving group than those selected in 2017. Congratulations to all!”

The recognition dinner honoring the 2017 class of Fellows and public service volunteers will be Sunday, December 10, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza/Union Station, Indianapolis.
