Amber Gowen, student at University of Evansville and We the People alumna from Bosse High School, taught by then government teacher Wendy McNamara, had been working with veteran’s affairs for years when she applied for and was accepted to be an Ambassador.
When asked what role her We the People experience played in her decision to become an Ambassador, Gowen stated, “Some of my closest friends served in Iraq, and I have lost friends. While I was going through We the People, I was discussing the very principles my friends were defending and promoting. Being an Alumni Ambassador allows me to put those principles into practice for something I care about very deeply.”
Gowen put those principles into practice at the University of Evansville’s Veteran’s Day Celebration, Wednesday, November 11th. She was invited by a newly formed student veterans’ organization to set up a troop support table at their kick-off event. Members of the public could write words of encouragement to troops deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq on banners that would be shipped to them.
We salute Amber for her selfless and continuing support of our veterans.
