Indiana's civil legal aid community is moving quickly to provide remote support for low- and modest-income Hoosiers seeking critical civil legal assistance. For information and resources about civil legal issues affected by COVID-19, see IndianaLegalHelp.org. During this historic crisis, we are asking for your help to continue to deliver these vital resources to Hoosiers in need.
One of the results of the current crisis is that in order to help our economy weather the storm, interest rates have been reduced to near zero. Unfortunately, this dramatic rate reduction affects the revenue generated for one of our major funding sources for civil legal aid in Indiana, the Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program. We anticipate an annual loss of nearly 80% in IOLTA revenue if interest rates stay at their current levels. As the largest private funder of civil legal aid in Indiana, the Foundation provides critical help for Hoosiers to protect their livelihood, their health, and their families.
In these unprecedented times, please consider making a gift to the Indiana Bar Foundation.
Attorneys can answer the call to help now, from home or anywhere, by answering online civil legal questions from low-income Hoosiers at indiana.freelegalanswers.org. Currently, there are nearly 100 unanswered questions awaiting a response. A donation of your time and knowledge would be so meaningful to Hoosiers that are facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Thank you in advance for supporting us as we support our most vulnerable Hoosiers.
